10.000 chevaux est un projet musical par les artistes interdisciplinaires Alexis O'Hara et Stephen Lawson. Jouant les rôles de Velvet et Lady Nite, elle incarnent le groupe en résidence au bar à la fin du monde.

 

Comme Velvet (ukulélé, voix et électronique) et Lady Nite (synthétiseurs), elles sont sœurs. Dans leurs rêves, elles ont été visitées par l'esprit de Khutulun, nièce de Kubla Khan. Cette princesse guerrière mongole a promis d'épouser l'homme qui pourrait la battre dans un match de catch, tout prétendant vaincu lui payerait en chevaux. Invaincu, elle a amassé 10 000 chevaux. Son héritage a été très mal compris. Aujourd'hui, le costume national de lutte de la Mongolie comprend un boléro qui expose la poitrine et, ainsi, empêche les femmes de participer. L'opéra Turandot, empruntant massivement de l'histoire de Khutulun, la présente comme une mégère meurtrière. Inspirée par la vrai histoire de cette féministe acharnée, 10,000 Horses s'engage à briller une lumière sonore sur les triomphes sous-estimés de nos héroïnes féminines.

 

Alexis O'Hara et Stephen Lawson ont, ensemble et séparément, créé des performance interdisciplinaires, des installations sonores, des vidéos, des œuvres de cabaret, de l'art sonore et des projets d'art communautaires à l'échelle internationale au cours des 20 dernières années. Pour leur spectacle de la soirée VIV(R)E LA NUIT, les soeurs Nite se plongent dans un univers ultra gothique, célébrant la beauté du côté moribond de cette saison. 

 

 

10,000 horses is a musical project by the interdisciplinary artists Alexis O'Hara and Stephen Lawson. Playing the roles of Velvet and Lady Nite, they embody the house band in the bar at the end of the world.

 

As Velvet (ukulele, voice and electronics) and Lady Nite (synthesizers), they are sisters. In dreams, they were visited by the spirit of Khutulun, Kubla Khan's niece. This Mongol warrior princess vowed to marry the man who could beat her in a wrestling match, his defeat would entail her to a bounty of horses. Unbeaten, she amassed 10,000 horses. Her legacy has been poorly understood. Today, the Mongolian national wrestling costume includes a bolero vest that exposes the chest and thus prevents women from participating. The opera Turandot, borrows greatly from the story of Khutulun, but here she is cast as a murderous shrew. Inspired by the true story of this fierce feminist, 10,000 Horses is committed to shining sonic light on the underestimated triumphs of our female heroines.

 

Alexis O'Hara and Stephen Lawson, together and separately, have created interdisciplinary performance, sound installations, videos, cabaret works, sound art and community art projects internationally for the last 20 years. For their performance at VIV(R)E LA NUIT, the Nite sisters dive into a gothic universe, celebrating the beauty of the decaying qualities of this season.
